Welcome
to The Drawingroom
....home
to emerging stars

I hope we have
created a website that reflects some of the beauty and serenity
of Francis Yard and my home, The Drawingroom. The aim with this
site is not to offer an alternative to visiting the cafe and gallery
but to expand and explain some of what goes on here, art, music,
food.
There is a what's
happening.. broken into several areas to keep you in touch with
what is happening in and around The Drawingroom. If you have your
own news, please feel free to e-mail
me or simply drop into the gallery.
About
The Drawingroom
The Drawingroom
is, to my certain knowledge, the only Art Gallery in the UK to exclusively
exhibit figurative, sensuous works, housing over 400 original works
of Fineart.
The Drawingroom
is housed in a 16th century building in Chesham,
and is haunted by a kindly female presence; she has watched over
this home for years. For a while some purring ghost cats rested
on my bed, eight in total, but it seems they have now moved on.
The building was initially constructed circa 1600 of oak, plaster
and lath and has been added to in subsequent years. Some of the
oak was probably from ship's timbers; this means some of the beams,
are from trees now 1000 years old.
For a majority
of it's history, the building was a peasant dwelling and ale house,
with a stable at the East Street end. It is also thought to have
been the home to Lewis Carrol's 'Mad
Hatter' Roger
Crab, the 'Mad Hatter' of Chesham.
Over the last 30 years it has been an office and barber shop.
The Fineart
exhibited includes sculpture in marble, Portland Stone, solid bronze
and cold cast. The Paintings are in pastels, watercolours, oils,
charcoal, some photography and pencil. I have selected the works
from living Artists, who reside in the UK and who demonstrate their
ability to capture and celebrate beauty through their use of light,
form, composition and above all, skill.
The Drawingroom
is also my home, whence it takes it's name; if you were here right
now, you would be in my home, my sitting room, livingroom, My Drawingroom...and
you'd be most welcome.
